Permanent Roofline Lighting in Waterford, Built Around Older Houses
We install permanent exterior lighting that stays on your roofline year-round and runs from an app on your phone. Before a single clip goes up, we check the fascia, gutters and outdoor power on your house, because older homes in Waterford, Cohoes and Troy rarely match the drawings.

Permanent Exterior Lighting, Installed Once
Our work is permanent lighting installation: a low-profile aluminum track mounted under the roofline edge, holding LED lights you control from an app for holidays, game nights or plain warm white every evening. We are licensed and insured, in business 5 years, and an authorized Gemstone Lights installer. On houses that have been re-sided and re-guttered over the decades, the track often has to follow fascia that has been patched, wrapped in aluminum or shimmed, so we plan the run around what is actually there. Our Permanent Exterior Lighting Installation page explains the system part by part.

Permanent Lighting
Low-profile LED track along your roofline, set from an app for holidays, game nights or soft white every evening, installed with older fascia and wiring in mind.
Exterior Soft Wash
Low-pressure cleaning that kills algae, mildew and lichen on siding and trim without forcing water behind old clapboard or loose paint.
Roof Treatments
A low-pressure treatment that kills moss, algae and lichen at the root, so the growth weathers off your shingles without anyone scrubbing a brittle roof.
Gutter-Line Lighting
We check your gutters, hangers and fascia before mounting permanent lighting along them, so the track sits straight and stays put through winter.
Window Lighting
Permanent lighting that frames the windows and roofline of older houses, mounted to sound fascia so there are no clips, tape or ladders each fall.
Roofline Prep
We clean and prep the fascia, soffit and trim where permanent lighting mounts, then keep the track and lenses clear so the light stays bright.
Where We Install
We are based in Waterford and install permanent lighting across the surrounding area, including Cohoes, Troy, Halfmoon, Latham, Brunswick and Watervliet. We also work in Green Island, Clifton Park, Niskayuna and North Greenbush.

What Moves the Price of Permanent Lighting
Every quote starts with a tape measure and a look at your trim. Price follows the linear feet of track and how hard it is to install that track safely and solidly on your particular house.
Your free quote comes by phone, followed by an on-site measurement and a written estimate that lists track length, controllers and any prep we found. Nothing is added after you approve it without talking to you first.
- Roofline length
- The total run of fascia and gable edge we light is the biggest driver. Wrapping only the front elevation costs less than lighting all four sides.
- Height and pitch
- Two- and three-story houses, steep gables and dormers take more ladder work and staging time than a single-story ranch.
- Condition of the fascia
- Sound wood or aluminum mounts quickly. Patched, warped or wrapped fascia may need extra fasteners, spacers or a different mounting line to sit straight.
- Gutter style and attachment
- Half-round gutters, spike-and-ferrule hangers and gutters set close to the shingles change where and how the track can attach.
- Power source location
- A usable outdoor outlet near the start of the run keeps wiring short. Long runs to reach power, or splitting the system into zones, add parts and labor.

About Lighting Contractor Waterford
We are a permanent lighting company based in Waterford, NY, and we have been in business 5 years. Much of the housing around here is older, with roof edges that have been re-sided, re-guttered or patched more than once. That history decides how a lighting track should be mounted, so we spend real time on the inspection.
We like work that is still straight and lit after a decade of freeze and thaw. That means correct fasteners for the material, sealed holes, wiring kept out of gutter channels and a controller placed where moisture cannot reach it. When something on your house needs fixing first, we tell you before we drill.

Why Homeowners Choose Us
A house built in the 1920s or the 1960s hides surprises behind its trim. We work the way that kind of house demands.
We inspect before we mount
Soft fascia boards, loose aluminum wrap and gutters hung on mismatched hangers are common on houses built decades ago. We probe the wood and check fastener holding before we quote, and we show you photos of anything that needs attention first.
Credentials you can check
We are licensed and insured, and we have been in business 5 years. As an authorized Gemstone Lights installer, we install the system the way the manufacturer specifies, so it performs the way it was designed to.
Power planned, not improvised
Many exteriors from past decades have one ungrounded outlet or none near the roofline. We locate a proper GFCI-protected outdoor outlet for the controller and power supply, and we tell you plainly if an electrician needs to add one before install day.
Track that blends with old trim
The track comes in colors we match to your fascia or gutter, so in daylight it reads as part of the trim instead of a cable line stapled to the house.
Straight answers on fit
Some rooflines, like a crumbling fascia or a slate roof edge with no trim to mount to, are not good candidates yet. We say so instead of selling a job that will fail in two winters.
Questions We Hear Most
- Will the lights hold up through upstate winters?
- Yes, when they are mounted correctly. The LEDs sit inside an aluminum track rated for outdoor use, and we seal every fastener hole so meltwater does not get behind the fascia. Ice dams and snow sliding off the roof are the bigger risk, which is why we set the track under the drip edge instead of on top of the gutter lip.
- My house is old and the trim has been repaired. Can you still install?
- Usually. We check whether the fascia is solid wood, aluminum wrap over wood, or a mix, and choose fasteners and spacers to match. If a section is rotted or the wrap is loose, we photograph it and recommend having it repaired before install so the track does not pull away later.
- How long does an install take?
- Most houses are finished in one working day. Tall gables, multiple zones or a long run to reach power can stretch it longer, and we tell you that when we hand over the written estimate. You do not need to be home for the mounting itself, but we like you there at the end for the app walkthrough.
- What do I need for power?
- The system runs on low voltage from a power supply plugged into a standard outdoor outlet, ideally GFCI-protected. Many houses built before outdoor outlets were common have an outdated or ungrounded outlet in the wrong spot. We check this during the inspection and let you know if an electrician should add or replace one first.
- Can I see the track during the day?
- Very little. The track is slim and comes in colors matched to common fascia and gutter finishes. From the street it reads as part of the trim.
- How do I control the lights?
- Everything is app-controlled from your phone. You can pick colors, build patterns for holidays, set warm white for everyday evenings and schedule on and off times so the lights run without you touching them.
- What happens if I replace my gutters later?
- Tell us before the gutter crew arrives. Depending on how the track was mounted, it may stay in place or need to be taken down and reset, and we can plan that with you.
How an Install Runs
Most houses take one working day once the plan is set. Here is what happens from first call to first light show.
