Permanent Exterior Lighting Installation in Waterford

We mount slim aluminum track with LED lights along your roofline, color-matched to the trim, so you control every color and pattern from your phone. Before anything goes up, we check the fascia, the outlet and the past repairs that older houses tend to hide.

What permanent lighting is, and when it makes sense

Permanent lighting is a run of individually addressable LED lights seated in an aluminum channel that fastens under the roof edge or to the fascia board. The channel is painted to match your trim, so in daylight it reads as part of the house. After dark, an app-controlled controller lets you set warm white for everyday curb appeal, team colors for a Sunday, or a slow color chase in December. No ladders every November and no tangled strings in the garage.

It is the right call if you hang holiday lights every year, want year-round accent lighting without floodlights glaring into the neighbors' windows, or simply want the home exterior to look finished at night.

Older houses need a closer look first. Fascia may be original pine wrapped in aluminum coil stock, a previous owner may have patched rot with filler, and the only exterior outlet might be an ungrounded two-prong receptacle from decades ago. We find those things before we drill, not after.

What the installation includes

Roofline and trim inspection
We walk the full roofline, press-test the fascia and soffit for soft wood, and note loose aluminum wrap or sagging gutters. If a section can't hold a fastener, we tell you and show you photos.
Color-matched aluminum track
The channel is cut to length on site and fastened into solid backing, not just the thin aluminum skin. We match it to your trim color so it disappears during the day.
LED light runs and corner transitions
Lights are spaced evenly along each run, with clean transitions at gables, hips and returns. Wire jumps between roof sections are tucked behind the track or the gutter.
Power supply and controller
The low-voltage power supply plugs into a weather-protected GFCI outlet near the eave. If your existing outlet is outdated or ungrounded, we explain what has to change before the system can be connected.
App setup and walkthrough
We connect the controller to your Wi-Fi, load a few starting scenes and show you how to set schedules, so the lights come on at dusk on their own.

Signs permanent lighting is a good fit for your house

  • You re-hang holiday lights every year

Clip-on strings and ladder trips in November cost you time and loosen gutter hangers and shingle edges each season. A fixed track ends that cycle.

  • Old clip marks and nail holes on the trim

Years of staples and hooks leave the fascia pocked and the paint chipped. The track covers that line and gives lights a permanent, solid mount.

  • The house disappears at night

A single porch light leaves the roofline dark. Soft white along the eaves shows the shape of the house and lights the walk without harsh floods.

  • Extension cords running across the yard

If your current display depends on cords snaking to a garage outlet, a dedicated power supply at the eave is safer and far tidier.

What moves the price

Every quote is built from your actual roofline, not a flat package. The biggest drivers are how many feet of track you want lit and how hard the roof is to reach. Older houses can add prep work, and we name it in writing so nothing appears later.

Linear footage

Price follows the length of the runs. Lighting only the front elevation costs less than wrapping all four sides.

Roof height and pitch

A two-story colonial or a steep Victorian gable needs taller ladders and more setup time than a single-story ranch.

Trim condition

Solid fascia mounts quickly. Soft wood, loose coil wrap or past patch jobs need extra attention so the track holds through freeze-thaw winters.

Power at the eave

A working GFCI outlet nearby keeps things simple. A missing, ungrounded or badly placed outlet adds a step before the system can be connected.

Roofline complexity

Many gables, dormers and corners mean more cuts, transitions and wire jumps than one long straight eave.

How the job runs, start to finish

  1. 1

Free quote by phone, then a site visit

You call, we talk through what you want lit, and we come measure the roofline, check the outlet and look over the fascia and soffit condition. You get a written quote that lists each run and any trim or outlet issues we found.

  2. 2

    Prep the weak spots

Where older trim has hidden rot or loose wrap, we flag it so it can be addressed before the track goes on. Mounting lights to failing wood only means a sagging run by spring.

  3. 3

    Install day

Most houses take a single day. We set ladders on padded feet, fasten the track into solid backing, seat the lights, route the wire and mount the power supply by the outlet.

  4. 4

    Test, program and clean up

We run every light through full color to catch dead pixels, set your schedule and favorite scenes, and pick up every cutoff and screw before we leave.

Permanent lighting questions we hear most

Can you see the track during the day?

Very little. The channel is low profile and matched to your trim color, so from the street it looks like part of the fascia or gutter line. Most neighbors only notice once the lights turn on.

How does it hold up to snow and ice?

The lights sit inside the channel, tucked under the roof edge, so sliding snow and ice pass over them rather than tearing them off. The bigger risk on older houses is the wood behind the track, which is why we fasten into solid backing and check for rot first.

Will you drill into my roof shingles?

No. The track mounts to the fascia or under the drip edge, not through the shingles. That keeps the roof covering intact and avoids creating a new leak point.

My house only has an old two-prong outdoor outlet. Is that a problem?

It can be. The power supply needs a grounded, GFCI-protected outlet in a weatherproof cover. We check this on the site visit and tell you plainly what is needed before installation, so you are not surprised on install day.

Do I need to be home, and how do I control the lights afterward?

We need access to the outlet and your Wi-Fi details for setup, so someone home at the end of the day helps. After that everything runs from the app on your phone: colors, brightness, patterns and automatic schedules.

Do you install outside Waterford?

Yes. We regularly quote permanent lighting in nearby towns such as Cohoes, Troy, Halfmoon and Clifton Park. The Service Areas page lists the rest.
